Winter Fishing is officially here in Southwest Florida. Time to slow things down and match the speed of those chilly fish. Sheepshead are the hot winter bite and great eating too! Shrimp pinned to the bottom is always a great way to go. Fidler craps and sand flees are all good baits as well. I like to use a knocker rig, a 1/4-1/2 ounce sinker in front of a Mustad 1/0 live bait hook. Redfish can be found on oyster bars and under mangroves on small inside islands. Baits that work best are live pinfish or shrimp under a popping cork. If artificial is your game try skipping a Hybrid Flurry on a 1/4 ounce jig head under over hanging mangrove shorelines and oyster bars, bounce it along the bottom slowly. Snook are headed back to their winter homes in the backcountry and up creeks and rivers. Fly fishing for Snook in winter can be good, use clowser or a EP Peanut Butter. Artificial , I like to use Wyze Guyz Tackle 5" Bada Boom in gold nugget on a Mustad 4/0 weedless hook. This is one of the best times of year to fish with the cooler temperatures, beautiful blue skies and a variety of fish species. Give me a call and lets get out there!
